Dr. Carl Kirschner, Consultant

Carl Kirschner, Ph.D., is a consultant who specializes in the areas of motivation, emotional effectiveness and stress management. He is currently Director of Student Services and Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Baruch College – CUNY, the largest public business college in the country. Dr. Kirschner has also been on the faculty of Cornell University Off-Campus School of Labor and Industrial Relations for over ten years where he has instructed staff from American Express, J. P. Morgan Chase, Xerox and others in organizational behavior, leadership and management. In addition, he was the principal presenter for the American Management Association in their "Motivating Others and Executive Effectiveness" seminars.

Dr. Kirschner began his academic career at Baruch as a career counselor and rose to supervise most of the offices in Student Development. He is responsible for the personal development as well as the physical and emotional well-being of over 15,000 students. Dr. Kirschner has developed and led programs in emotional intelligence, leadership and sexual harassment awareness training over the course of his tenure. He has also trained support staff in effective customer relations.

As a consultant, Dr. Kirschner has been involved in conflict resolution, change management, diversity and coexistence, cultural competence, executive coaching, stress management and motivation for clients including Alexander’s Department Stores, Communication Power Corp. of Long Island, Delia’s, Equitable Life Assurance Society, Ibbotson Associates, New England Life Insurance Co., New York State Administrative Judges, N.Y.S. Controller’s Office and TIAA-CREF. His research has ranged from the relationships among stress, personality and performance to information processing in air traffic controllers. He has appeared as a panel member on the Oxygen network for discussions of harassment in the workplace.

Dr. Kirschner was awarded a Ph.D. from New York University in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. He is also certified as a Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Trainer. He is a member of the Employee Assistance Professional Association, Metropolitan Association for Applied Psychology and the Association for Student Judicial Affairs.
